Our Story

“Vuoma” is a Sámi word, meaning a long and gentle river valley between arctic hill. The beautiful nature of Finland and traditional Scandinavian design have been our sources of inspiration for our products giving rise to WUOMA.

Our idea was born out of a desire to bring well-designed and ecological alternatives to bathroom and hygiene products that are commonly made of plastic and metal. We took notice of several new and modern buildings with stylish interiors, but the unaesthetic soap dispensers on the walls ruined the overall ambiance.

The first prototypes were sketched on a napkin during a lunch meeting in a fast-food restaurant . Subsequently, the prototype production began at the home of master carpenter Visa Meisalmi in Tampere. After numerous prototypes, the product family began to take shape.

We aim to combine modern design work and traditional Finnish wood and metal craftsmanship in our products. We believe that future work and living spaces require product solutions that value elegance and the ecological lifecycle of the items. Beautifully designed and executed spaces deserve products of equal value. All WUOMA products have received international recognition and are designed and manufactured in Finland.

• Can WUOMA products be purchased outside Finland?
  • We are continually expanding our international retailer network. We can also directly ship orders to your desired country if our products are not yet available through a local retailer.
• How does WUOMA consider the environment in its operations?
  • Taking care of the environment and our carbon footprint is one of our top priorities. We continuously strive to improve our practices to ensure a negative carbon footprint.
  • As a concrete action, we plant a significant number of trees quarterly. For each WUOMA product made from wood, we plant a new tree in cooperation with the “istutapuita.fi” service.
• What does sustainability mean to WUOMA?
  • Sustainability is a crucial theme for us. We constantly strive to improve our operations and develop the company in this regard. Above all, sustainability means tangible actions for us.
  • We aim to maintain a transparent operation within our company. We are members of Vastuu Group, and so are our subcontractors are also members. We regularly collaborate with work training centers and indirectly employ several long-term unemployed and job seekers.
  • We take economic responsibility seriously, paying our taxes and pension contributions in Finland. Once a year, we make a donation to a changing charity cause. Taking care of the environment and our carbon footprint is one of the fundamental pillars of our sustainability efforts. We source only responsibly produced materials and continuously develop our operations towards a negative carbon footprint. As a concrete action, we plant a considerable number of trees quarterly. For each WUOMA product made from wood, we plant a new tree.
